Saturday, May 8 from 1 to 5 pm
Children's Games Day. Smithfield
Kids and Junior Interpreters on hand for dancing, crafts,
storytelling,
and of course, games. |
Wednesdays from 9am
to noon
Garden Help!!! We need to
play in the dirt
and get some things growing (and eliminate some weeds) in our garden!!
Please try to come by on Wednesday mornings between 9 and noon when it
is
not pouring rain and help get things shipshape! The Smithfield gardner,
Lori, has already planted some flax for us to take care of and there is
the matter of the space between the steps that we are responsible for.
See ya in the weed patch! |
Saturday,
June 19 from 10 am to 2 pm
Bread,
Butter, Jam, and Archery. There will be a Bread,
Butter and Jam workshop for the SmithfieldKids from 10am to 11:30am.
Designed especially for the younger interpreters by Victoria
Taylor-Ross, this fun event explores basic food preparation and
involves lots of tasting. Come in costume and bring a small jar with a
tight-fitting lid! Archery for all ages will follow from 11:30am until
2pm as Nikki Early and her wonderful group return to help us learn the
fine art of shooting arrows. We will use the targets from last year and
shoot in rotating groups as before. There will be equipment available
for even the little ones to try archery (parents need to stay on site,
please). Come in costume and bring a picnic! Rain will cancel both
events.

Sunday,
July 4, at 3:15 pm
Independence Day Parade.
Anyone interested in walking with the Smithfield group in the
Blacksburg Independence Day Parade are asked to meet at the old middle
school no later than 3:15pm on Sunday, July 4th. Judging of entries is
at 3:40pm and the parade will begin at 4pm. The parade route is through
downtown and ending just past Wades Supermarket on North Main Street.
The route is rather long, so if you wish to join us for some part, you
are welcome to do so. Please wear your costume and comfortable
walking shoes. I have inside information that the parade pace will be
much slower and steadier than in years past!! We are position 13, which
is rather near the front of the line. Please consider walking to show
your support for Smithfield and the wonderful programs and camps we
provide for the community. |
July 12 to August 6 from 9am to
noon
Smithfield
History Camps are offered in 4, week-long sessions, Monday
through Friday for ages 8 through 12. Children
will explore 18th and 19th century culture through
history, art, and science activities. Previous year's activities
have included an archaeological dig, candlemaking, colonial games,
surveying,
and other activities. Junior Interpreters are
welcome
to help with the camps, serving as craft assistants, crowd control and
all-around good helpers! Pick a week you would like to volunteer
and let Pam know!! If
you would like to attend the camp, the registration
form is available as an Adobe PDF
file. |
